BOOKER MAKES HISTORY WITH 25-HOUR SENATE SPEECH

In a remarkable display of endurance, US Senator Cory Booker delivered the longest speech in Senate history, speaking for 25 hours and five minutes against President Donald Trump's "unconstitutional" actions.

Booker, a Democrat from New Jersey, seized the floor at 7:00 pm on Monday and finished at 8:05 pm on Tuesday, surpassing the previous record held by South Carolina's Strom Thurmond, who filibustered for 24 hours and 18 minutes against the Civil Rights Act of 1957.

The senator's marathon speech was a fiery protest against Trump's radical cost-cutting policies, which have seen his top advisor Elon Musk slash entire government programs without consent from Congress. Booker argued that Trump's aggressive seizing of executive power has put US democracy at risk.

"This is a moral moment. It's not left or right. It's right or wrong," Booker said as he wrapped up his speech. He also quoted his mentor John Lewis, a 1960s civil rights movement leader, who urged campaigners to get into "good trouble."

Booker's speech was not without its challenges. To withstand the physical demands, he stopped eating on Friday and stopped drinking the night before he started speaking. Despite feeling "tired and a little hoarse," Booker's voice remained strong throughout his speech.

The senator's defiance quickly became a rallying point for Democrats, who have struggled to blunt Trump's efforts to downsize government and shred political norms. Senator Raphael Warnock thanked Booker for "holding vigil for this country all night."

Booker's speech also included recitations of poetry, discussions of sports, and questions from colleagues. As he concluded, he urged Americans to take action against Trump's policies, saying "the power of the people is greater than the people in power."
