Following the Super Eagles' dismal performance against South Africa, sports editors in Lagos have shared their thoughts on the team's chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Adekunle Salami of New Telegraph believes the World Cup ticket is out of Nigeria's reach, citing the team's poor performance in the qualifiers, including five draws in eight games. He advises the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to "eat humble pie and resign."

Tana Aiyejina of Punch Newspapers agrees that qualification for the World Cup is unlikely, but suggests fulfilling all remaining matches. He questions the effectiveness of calling for the NFF's resignation, wondering if a new set of leaders would bring significant change.

Duro Ikhazuagbe of Thisday Newspapers advocates for a total overhaul of the NFF, stating that those running Nigerian football are incompetent and should be replaced. He believes the government should use the Congress to effect necessary changes, starting with the State FAs and the congress itself.
