Air Peace Grounds Captain After Port Harcourt Incident
Nigeria's largest airline, Air Peace, has grounded the captain involved in a recent incident at Port Harcourt's Omagwa Airport. According to the airline, the captain was relieved of duty for failing to adhere to Crew Resource Management principles and disregarding standard go-around procedures, despite advice from the co-pilot.

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) had revealed that preliminary investigations showed positive results for certain substances, including alcohol consumption, in initial toxicological tests conducted on the flight crew. However, Air Peace clarified that the captain's grounding was not due to testing positive for alcohol, as the NSIB had not formally communicated such results to the airline.

The airline emphasized its strict alcohol and drug policy, which prohibits drug use and requires crew members to adhere to a stricter timeline for alcohol consumption than regulatory requirements. The co-pilot, who demonstrated professionalism by calling for a go-around, has been reinstated into active flying duties with approval from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

Air Peace reassured passengers and the public of its commitment to safety, stating that it will intensify fitness-for-duty checks and internal monitoring to prevent breaches of its zero-tolerance safety policy.
